Rain Ladles

The same rain, three lengths. Sadekauha fits most saunas. Mestari is for hot löyly and the Aufguss master's hand. Pitkä Mestari when the stove is far away or the benches are high.

Reach is the distance from your thumb to the centre of the rain. Lengths are the overall length of each ladle. FAQ on choosing a size

How it works

Your thumb holds the rain until you let it fall

There is a small air hole at the front of the handle. While your thumb covers it, no air can enter the cup and the water stays inside. Lift your thumb, air flows in and the water falls onto the stove as rain.

No moving parts. No valves. Just air and your thumb.

How the air moves

An air channel inside the ladle

The air hole in the handle connects to the cup through a channel inside the shaft. That is why your thumb alone controls the rain.

As the cup is dipped into the water, air escapes through the channel and out of the hole in the handle, and water rises into the cup through the rain lid.

Your thumb closes the hole. No air can enter the cup, so the water stays inside even though the rain lid points down.

When your thumb lifts, air flows through the channel into the cup and the water falls through the rain lid onto the stove.

Throwing löyly is the most important moment of the sauna ritual. We wanted the water to reach the stove as a sculpturally beautiful rain, with the person holding the ladle in full control.

We spent five years looking for a more beautiful way to let water meet the stones. We set out to make a ladle no one had seen before: rain that leaves the ladle as a sculpture. The Valeja Sadekauha is our vision of the finest sauna ladle in the world.

Valeja is our contribution to sauna culture, one beautiful gesture at a time.

Valeja comes from the Finnish verb valaa, to pour. It refers to the moment water is poured onto the stones and löyly is born.

Three sizes

Start with the Sadekauha

The Sadekauha suits every sauna and every hand. The Mestari is a second ladle for hotter löyly, so you can choose the ladle to suit the moment. For sauna masters and Aufguss professionals, the Mestari is a tool that can be seen from the back row. The Pitkä Mestari is the same Mestari, 20 cm longer: for when the stove is out of reach.

How far the rain reaches

The ladles to scale, cups aligned. The circle marks where your thumb sits. The measurement is the distance from your thumb to the centre of the rain.

Grip

Your hand holds the handle and your thumb finds the air hole at its front. On the Sadekauha, the end of the handle rests against your wrist and carries the weight of the cup.
