“A masterpiece.”
Michael Niedermair, Aufguss World Champion 2024 and 2026

The Mestari is the Valeja rain ladle for hotter löyly, larger saunas and professional use. Its 0.5-litre cup delivers full, Viking-worthy löyly in a single pour. Length 75 cm.

For sauna masters and Aufguss professionals, the Mestari is a tool that can be seen from the back row.

Valeja is a rain ladle made in Finland. It gives you full control over the pour and turns the start of the löyly into a conscious moment.

What Valeja does

Valeja does not pour water onto the heater – it releases it as rain.
The rain lid splits the water into many small streams, so the steam rises softer and more evenly, without splashing or a sudden burst of heat.

The result:

  • more even steam
  • better control
  • a calmer rhythm
Controlled rain

With Valeja, the water stays inside the ladle until you decide otherwise.

While your thumb covers the air hole in the handle, no air can enter the cup and no water flows, even though the rain lid points down.
Lift your thumb, air flows into the ladle and the rain begins.

The movement is small. The moment is clear. The rain never starts by accident, only when you are ready.

Rain lid

The rain lid sets the duration, density and pattern of the rain.

The ladle comes with the Anela rain lid.

  • Anela: Aluminium rain lid – the rain forms a beautiful circular sculpture of water: airy, striking and robust. Like a pillar built by the ancient Romans.
Materials and craftsmanship

  • Metal parts: stainless steel
  • Handle: birch (oil-finished)
  • Rain lid: anodised aluminium (Anela)
  • Finish: suited to sauna conditions

The materials are chosen to withstand heat, moisture and repeated use.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Valeja Sadekauha?

The Valeja Sadekauha is a sauna ladle that releases water onto the stove as rain.

What makes it different?

Lift your thumb and the rain begins. The water is not poured all at once but falls onto the stones as sculptural rain.

Why does the löyly feel softer?

Even rain spreads the water over a wider area of stones and reduces splashing and sudden bursts of steam.

How do I use it?

Dip the ladle into the water, cover the air hole in the handle with your thumb and hold the ladle over the stove. Lift your thumb and the water rains onto the stones.

Does it suit every sauna?

It works with practically all wood-burning and electric stoves, as long as you throw the water onto the stones as usual.

Mestari or Pitkä Mestari for a sauna master?

The Mestari (75 cm). It is the performer’s tool: visible from the back row and easy to control during long programmes. In a smaller sauna a sauna master may also choose the Sadekauha (51 cm). The Pitkä Mestari is the same ladle 20 cm longer, for saunas where the stove is out of reach.

How it works

Your thumb holds the rain until you let it fall

There is a small air hole at the front of the handle. While your thumb covers it, no air can enter the cup and the water stays inside. Lift your thumb, air flows in and the water falls onto the stove as rain.

No moving parts. No valves. Just air and your thumb.

How the air moves

An air channel inside the ladle

The air hole in the handle connects to the cup through a channel inside the shaft. That is why your thumb alone controls the rain.

As the cup is dipped into the water, air escapes through the channel and out of the hole in the handle, and water rises into the cup through the rain lid.

Your thumb closes the hole. No air can enter the cup, so the water stays inside even though the rain lid points down.

When your thumb lifts, air flows through the channel into the cup and the water falls through the rain lid onto the stove.
