About us

Valeja was born in the sauna

Throwing löyly is the most important moment of the sauna ritual. We wanted the water to reach the stove as a sculpturally beautiful rain, with the person holding the ladle in full control.

We spent five years looking for a more beautiful way to let water meet the stones. We set out to make a ladle no one had seen before: rain that leaves the ladle as a sculpture. The Valeja Sadekauha is our vision of the finest sauna ladle in the world.

How Valeja is made

  1. Valeja Sadekauhan ensimmäinen lyijykynäluonnos
    October 2025

    The first sketch

A closed cup, holes in the base and an air channel through the handle. The principle was on paper before the first prototype.

  2. Sadekannen reikäkuvioiden luonnoksia
    November 2025

    The rain pattern

The number and position of the holes decide what the rain becomes. Patterns were drawn and tested one at a time.

  3. Kauhan kuppia ja vartta hitsataan
    November 2025

    Steel

The cup and the shaft are made of stainless steel. The first pieces were welded by hand.

  4. Antti Saaraisen työkuva Sadekauha 1.0, marraskuu 2025
    November 2025 – March 2026

    Design and drawings

Designer Antti Saarainen refined the shape of the ladle and drew every part for the machine shops that make them.

  5. 3D-tulostettu sadekannen prototyyppi ja koneistettuja koelevyjä
    December 2025 – May 2026

    A hundred rain lids

The rain lid was born on a 3D printer. We printed and tested more than a hundred versions before we understood how to make the rain fall evenly.

  6. Anela-sadekannen alapuoli, senkatut reiät
    May 2026

    The Anela rain lid

The lid is machined from aluminium and anodised. Its rain falls onto the stove as a ring.

  7. Koivukahva laserkaiverruksessa
    July 2026

    Engraving

The VALEJA mark on every birch handle is engraved by laser.

  8. Valeja-kauhojen mustat toimitusputket
    July 2026

    Packaging

The ladle travels in a black tube, held in place by its own fitted cap. The tube protects the ladle and is the first thing you see of Valeja.

    Assembly

The ladles are assembled, inspected and packed in Jyväskylä, Finland.

Valeja is our contribution to sauna culture, one beautiful gesture at a time.
